Elkridge MD Homes for Sale

Elkridge sits in the eastern corner of Howard County, along the Patapsco River, with Anne Arundel County and Baltimore County just across the line. I'm Ryan Breeden, a Long & Foster agent who has lived in Howard County for more than 25 years and sold real estate here since 2005. The newest Elkridge homes for sale are below. After them, I'll walk through what buyers should know before they make an offer.

Elkridge, MD Communities

What's It Like Living in Elkridge, MD?

Elkridge is one of the more practical places to live in Howard County. U.S. Route 1, Interstate 95 and Route 100 all run through or beside it, so you can get to Baltimore, BWI, Columbia and the Washington corridor without a long drive to reach a highway. There's also a MARC station at Dorsey for commuters who'd rather skip the drive.

The tradeoff is traffic. Route 1 and I-95 both back up at rush hour, and a house that looks close on a map can feel far depending on which side of the highway it's on. I always tell buyers to drive their real commute at the real time before they fall for a house.

Elkridge also isn't one uniform area, so it helps to know where you're looking. My favorite part is where Elkridge borders Ellicott City, in Lyndwood off Montgomery Road and Willowood off Route 103. The Route 1 corridor feels different. It's more commercial, with motels and warehouses mixed in with the housing, so I'd look closely at what surrounds a specific address and visit at different times of day. Elkridge's other pockets include the historic area near the river in northern Elkridge, Hunt Club and Montgomery Woods in the center, and Troy Hill and Harwood Park in the south. Each has a different price point, age of housing and feel.

Elkridge also has real history you can still see. The Thomas Viaduct, built in 1833, is a stone railroad bridge that's still standing, and the Elkridge Furnace dates to the 1700s. Patapsco Valley State Park and Rockburn Branch Park give you trails and open space close to home, which is a big part of why people stay.

What Kinds of Homes Can You Buy in Elkridge?

Elkridge offers more variety than most buyers expect. You can search single-family houses on established lots, townhomes at a lower price point, condos for low-maintenance living, and new construction when builders have inventory. If you want extra living space, the homes with a basement search is a good place to start, or you can browse 3 bedroom homes. If you're interested in a gated community, you can search gated community homes in Elkridge, or just the gated homes in Lyndwood.

With my background in residential construction and appraisal, I look at an Elkridge house differently than most agents. I help you look for potential issues like how the roof, drainage and mechanicals have aged, and I pull comps so you can see whether the price lines up with what similar homes have sold for. That's the part of the process that protects you after closing, and it's what I do for every buyer I work with.

How Does Elkridge Compare With Nearby Areas?

Buyers usually look at Elkridge alongside Ellicott City and Columbia, both to the west in Howard County, and sometimes across the line in Anne Arundel County. As of fall 2026, median sold prices in Ellicott City run roughly $751,000 to $761,000, with multiple offers on many homes. Columbia runs roughly $476,000 to $510,000, and Elkridge roughly $495,000 to $525,000. That makes Elkridge well below Ellicott City and about in line with Columbia, with a warm but steady pace.

The bigger difference is the feel of each area. Elkridge is closer to BWI and the Baltimore side of the county. Ellicott City has the historic Main Street and many older, wooded neighborhoods. Columbia is a planned community with ten villages, each with its own pathways, pools and community centers.

What Should You Know Before Buying in Elkridge?

Start with the numbers, not the listing photos. As of fall 2026, the average Elkridge list price is around $550,000. Our Elkridge market report shows current inventory and pricing, and the recently sold homes show what buyers have actually paid, which matters more than asking price.

Check a few things on any property. If it's close to the river or a stream, look up the FEMA flood map and ask about flood insurance before you write an offer. Visit at different times of day and listen for road, rail and air noise, especially near Route 1, I-95 and the rail line. Confirm school assignments with the HCPSS school locator instead of relying on a listing, because boundaries change. And if you already own here and wonder what your place would bring, our Elkridge home value tool is a good starting point.

Start a Saturday with coffee and breakfast at Elkridge Deli Cafe, or make a cone from Cindy’s Soft Serve the last stop on a warm evening. When the occasion calls for leaving dinner to someone else, the historic Elkridge Furnace Inn brings a distinctive setting along the Patapsco River to an evening out. Time outdoors can be as simple as a playground visit at Troy Park or an afternoon exploring Rockburn Branch Park’s wooded trails and disc golf course. Patapsco Valley State Park adds more room to roam, with hiking, river scenery, and historic sites that give a weekend outing a little extra character. For the practical side of the week, Trader Joe’s and Costco at Gateway Overlook offer options for everything from dinner ingredients to stocking up before company arrives. The location also puts Route 1, Route 100, and I-95 into the regional travel picture, while Dorsey’s MARC station offers Camden Line service toward Baltimore and Washington. With Howard County public schools, space to spread out, and local destinations worth making part of your routine, this is a home with possibilities both inside and beyond its walls.
