Crofton MD Homes for Sale

Crofton is a planned community in western Anne Arundel County, with homes that run from condos and townhomes to detached ranchers, medium-sized colonials, split foyers and split levels. I'm Ryan Breeden, a Long & Foster agent who has helped buyers and sellers across central Maryland since 2005, and I grew up about five miles from Crofton, so I know it well. I've sold homes in Crofton Meadows, Crofton Village, Charing Cross, Crofton Mews and Sycamore Mews, and I've shown homes in and know the other sections on this page, including Crofton Park, Walden, Chapman Farm, Cedar Grove, Habitat and Bancroft. The newest Crofton homes for sale are below. After them, I'll walk through how the community is laid out, what homes cost, how long the Fort Meade commute runs, and what to check before you make an offer.

What's It Like Living in Crofton, MD?

Crofton was planned and built as one community and was founded in 1964. The original section was built around Crofton Parkway, and parts of it have a feel similar to some of the original Columbia neighborhoods, with a similar style of homes. More sections were added over the years, including areas off Riedel Road and Johns Hopkins Road, so the age and style of the homes change a lot from one section to the next. The community also grew up around a golf course that became the Crofton Country Club.

The MLS splits Crofton into more than 20 named sections, which is why I've grouped the main ones below by the kind of home you'll find there. Which section fits depends on whether you want a condo, a townhome or a detached house, how much updating you're comfortable with, and how much you want to spend.

Route 3 (Crain Highway) is the road most Crofton drivers use for errands, and Google Maps sends most of the Fort Meade drives below along Route 3 and Route 32. Route 3 has a lot of traffic signals, so it slows down at rush hour, but it's also lined with shopping and restaurants, which some buyers like because everything is close. Drive it at the time of day you'd actually be on it before you commit to a home.

Fort Meade is a big reason people look here. Depending on the section, Google Maps shows about 16 to 35 minutes to the Reece Road gate in typical traffic. If you're moving here on orders, my PCS or military relocation page explains how I work with buyers who can't visit first.

How Much Do Homes Cost in Crofton?

Crofton homes that sold in the last 12 months were listed between $100,000 and $974,500, and the average list price was about $516,000. That's 323 sales, from MLS data pulled 10-20-2026. There are 73 homes on the market right now, listed from $200,000 to $1,400,000 with an average list price of about $503,000.

Price depends mostly on the type of home. Detached homes were 118 of those sales, listed from $400,000 to $974,500 with an average list price of about $714,000. Townhomes were 185 sales, listed from $249,900 to $659,900, averaging about $411,000. Condos were 19 sales, averaging about $320,000.

A few of the smaller sections only see a handful of sales a year, so treat their numbers as a snapshot and not a trend. Those are list prices, not final sold prices. For the current numbers, see my Crofton market report, linked at the top of this page, and if you're thinking about selling, the Home Value button at the top gives you a free estimate.

I've sold homes here.

Crofton Mews and Sycamore Mews. Condos, with Crofton Mews built around 1978 and Sycamore Mews around 1998. Twenty-one sold in the last 12 months across the two, with an average list price of about $327,000, and listings topped out at $389,400. About 16 to 26 minutes to the Reece Road gate in the morning and 16 to 24 in the afternoon. I've sold homes in both.

Thirteen sold in the last 12 months, listed from $249,900 to $349,900, with an average list price of about $303,000, which makes it one of the lowest-priced sections in Crofton. That's a small sample, so use it as a reference point and not a trend. About 18 to 28 minutes to the Reece Road gate in the morning and 18 to 26 in the afternoon. I've shown homes here and know it well.

Charing Cross. Mostly townhomes built around 1979 and 1980. Seven sold in the last 12 months, listed from $435,000 to $749,000, with an average list price of about $508,000. About 16 to 28 minutes to the Reece Road gate in the morning and 16 to 26 in the afternoon. I've sold homes here.

For condos and townhomes, ask the association for the current fees and what they cover before you write an offer. I help you get the right contact so you can ask directly and verify.

Why Do Some Crofton Names Show Up as Gambrills?

The MLS tags Crofton Valley, Crofton Farms, Crofton Gate and a few other Crofton-named subdivisions as Gambrills, so they appear in Gambrills searches and not in Crofton ones. I cover them on my Gambrills page. If a home has Crofton in its name, check the town and subdivision on the listing so you know where it really sits.

How Long Is the Commute to Fort Meade From Crofton?

These are Google Maps ranges to the Reece Road gate in typical traffic at 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM on a Wednesday, checked 10-20-2026. Crofton Village is the shortest at about 16 to 24 minutes in the morning. Chapman Farm and Crofton Mews are about 16 to 26, Charing Cross is about 16 to 28, Walden is about 18 to 26, Crofton Meadows, Habitat and Bancroft are about 18 to 28, Cedar Grove is about 18 to 30, and Crofton Park is the longest at about 20 to 35. Afternoon ranges are within a few minutes of those.

Reece Road is the gate that's open around the clock, and Fort Meade's site lists the hours for the others. If the shortest drive matters most, compare Crofton with Odenton, the closest town to Fort Meade. Drive your real route at your real time before you buy.

What Should You Know Before Buying in Crofton?

Start with the section name on the listing. A Crofton search can bring up condos under $300,000 and detached homes near $1,000,000, and the section tells you the age, the style and the association rules you're dealing with.

Crofton has the Crofton Civic Association and a special community benefit district, and several of the newer sections have their own HOAs. Ask for the current fees and what they cover on any home before you make an offer. I help you get the details and the association contact so you can ask directly and verify.

Older sections can need updating, so decide how much work you want to take on, and drive Route 3 at rush hour before you commit.

Confirm school assignments for the exact address with the Anne Arundel County Public Schools enrollment page and its school locator instead of relying on a listing, because boundaries change.
